Padmasambhava (Tib.: Guru Rinpoche) statue
This beautiful bronze statue of Padmasambhava – also referred to as The Lotus Born or the Second Buddha – needed his face painted in the traditional way. Carmen first gilded his head with pure gold, before she applied the pigments with tiny brushes.
As you can see from the pictures the statue is relatively small (about 20cm), but the painting and gilding still takes quite a lot of time to get it right, as it is such very detailed task that needs a lot of concentration.
The beautiful Buddha statue is now back on his altar, expressing his strong features!
