Inspiration Gallery School for Tibetan Buddhist Art 2024

Welcome to the Inspiration Gallery – Edition 2024!
Here displayed are the artworks that were/will be created during the Online Thangka Art Courses at the School for Tibetan Buddhist Art with Carmen Mensink in 2024.
Currently, the School for Tibetan Buddhist Art offers the following online thangka art courses: Buddha Face, The Buddha, Medicine Buddha, White Tara, the Eight Auspicious Symbols, and the special course on Colouring Techniques.

These traditional Tibetan artworks are made by people from all over the world, both with and without any drawing experience. Not only express these images the enlightened Buddha mind, they also convey the beauty, love and dedication of the maker. 🙏🏼
Isn’t each and every one of them amazing?

Exceeded my expectations

It was a great course that exceeded my expectations. Despite some unexpected distractions, I was still able to get back on track thanks to the great design of the course. It was a closer introduction to White Tara and I enjoyed it. Now I am going to color with the help of the coloring techniques.
Thank you Carmen for sharing this with us! Warm greetings joke

Everything about the course was delightful. Carmen has a way of bringing out the hidden qualities in you. I was very hesitant about colouring initially, but after listening to and following Carmen’s instructions throughout the lesson videos, I was amazed with what I am able to do with the colour pencils. Yet another beautiful course by Carmen❤️. Good challage and a chance to further develop my Thangka drawing skills. Also loved all the lectures about White Tara. Only wish I was finished on time this time around- still need to finish the background, which will be the Manosarovar Lake, as seen from the end of the Mount Kailash ( Above) Kora (trek).

Looking forward to more courses 🙏🙏🙏

The instructions and feedback are always so helpful

The more I learned about White Tara the more I loved her. This was by far the most complicated course I have taken from Carmen but the instructions and feedback are always so helpful. I see now that she is done I do need to fix the top sky to widen it to match the bottom. My paper was 30″ x 23″ so while working on one end I seemed to ignore the the other end. I used watercolor, pens and watercolor pencils plus a gold pen.
I found so much joy in drawing Tara, thank you, Carmen.

I loved all the extra material in the course

I loved taking this course. I have to admit, I loved the fact that there was no time constraints on the course, since I have a busy life. I loved all the extra material in the course, the connection to the old Dutch masters, the documentary on the Chinese artists, the connection to Escher, the documentaries on colors. This course will continue to help me with using colored pencils and blending with other drawings, not just my Thangka drawings. I love colored pencils as a medium, and the course made me appreciate them even more than I do.

Hello Carmen,
The color technique course was certainly very nice and educational.
Especially the shadow sides, stripes instead of circles that I was used to.
It still takes a lot of practice.
Just opened the beautiful folder, I’m speechless.
The White Tara is already special, many thanks 🙏

This is the second photo I have sent but this one has me in it as well as my White Tara. As I wrote before, I love this image and the story and mantra of White Tara very much. The coloring was the hardest for me but I like the brightness of her. I do struggle with color although I have taken the color theory class from Carmen. I can’t wait to see what Carmen offers next to challenge and inspire me in my practice.

Liked it very much

I liked the drawing and colouring of the buddha very much. My raser made a dark spot on the chin of my buddha. I wanted to start again with a second buddha, but I started colouring already, and that’s why I had to give him a much darker skin than I actually wanted.
I was really surprised about the form of the face.
Thank you so much Carmen

Hello Carmen, I really enjoyed this course. The explanation and information were very clear and contributed to a beautiful mandala that is not yet completely finished, but it will turn out well. Then I will make these on an A4 and they will hang next to the room door as a wish for every visitor. I’ll send photos by then. For now thanks and much love.

Here are the golden fishes drawn onto a plate

I LOVED every part of this course from beginning to end. I could spend a whole year going through each of the modules again. Carmen is an excellent teacher and I so appreciated the time and thoughtfulness that went into each lectures. My drawings were not very good, but I was so inspired by the meanings of the symbols that I tried going 3D since I am more used to working with clay. Here are the golden fishes drawn onto a plate. Unfortunately the glaze was too thick and so you can’t really see them (too underwater).

Enjoyed this online course a lot. I made two drawings in different sizes. Large was easier in a way, but I found painting a big challenge. Will definitely happen! Drawing/painting is above all a beautiful quest, a creative path in which I can take my steps calmly. I enjoy this. Partly because of the lectures and meditations. Thanks!

Strength, inspiration and positive energy

Hello Carmen,
Many thanks for the wonderful experience while making the White Tara.
It’s special that you get so much strength and inspiration, positive energy from this.
The Mantra goes through you all day long, it makes you happy.
The first Tara, because of you and thanks to the full explanation of love.
I drew a new grid yesterday to retain the feeling and see if it works. And it does.
Thanks again for the wonderful trip.
Namaste, and sweet greetings, from Zeeland.

Exceptionally clear and easy to follow

I thoroughly enjoyed the course. The instructions provided were exceptionally clear and easy to follow. Despite not having drawn any pictures since high school, I felt confident in my ability to follow the guidance and draw the buddha face. I dedicated an entire day to immersing myself in the drawing process. It was fun and helped cultivate my energy of mindfulness. I am eagerly looking forward to enrolling in the White Tara Thangka Art course.

p.s. I found it a bit hard to draw the ears and the eyes. But with more practices, I think I will be able to make both sides more balance 🙂 My ragdoll cat, Bodhi, says hi to Tara.
