Welcome to the Inspiration Gallery! Here displayed are the artworks that were created during the online Medicine Buddha Thangka Art Course and the White Tara Thangka Art Course with Carmen Mensink, Edition 2021, at the School for Tibetan Buddhist Art.
These traditional Tibetan artworks are made by people from all over the world, and both with and without any drawing experience. Not only express these images the enlightened Buddha mind, they also convey the beauty, love and dedication of the maker. 🙏🏼
Isn’t each and every one of them amazing?

Such an enriching, educational, meaningful, and powerful course

Such an enriching, educational, meaningful, and powerful course
Wow. I am totally blown away. I’ve been wanting to meet Medicine Buddha for a while now. I never imagined it would be this way. Only a couple months ago I started following “Medicine Buddha” tag on instagram and your classes popped up. So I signed up and started with the Buddha face and proceeded with the Medicine Buddha course.
This was better than I ever could have planned myself, at a time that couldn’t have been more perfect for me physically, mentally and karmically. Your quote sums it all up, “We practice medicine to alleviate suffering and prolong the human life, to improve the opportunity to attain enlightenment”. And I could quite literally see this working…in my meditations, as I focus on my breath, I usually am aware of a background of nonsense thoughts constantly coming and going. After practicing and reciting Medicine Buddha mantra for this month, I noticed in my meditations that background noice while concentrating on breath was a background hum of the mantra. It was almost as if my subconscious was getting cleansed from random thought to the mantra. I thought that was quite amazing….
I am a practitioner of the healing arts, but I really haven’t done “physical art” since high school…a bit of drawing or ceramics here and there. I was completely amazed by the end result of Medicine Buddha. I think I found a new feel-good, meditative hobby! I want to keep this going. Thank you so much for such an enriching, educational, meaningful, powerful course. I am very grateful for you as a teacher, for Medicine Buddha as a guide in my life and for Zoom for making this accessible to me in Montana, USA!

No drawing experience, excited at how quickly my drawings are progressing

No drawing experience, excited at how quickly my drawings are progressing
What a surprise! While my thangka isn’t perfect, it’s far better than I expected. I’ve started Carmen’s courses with no drawing experience, and I’m excited at how quickly my drawings are progressing. Next is the Eight Auspicious Symbols class as I continue practicing drawing the Buddha.

A super structure and good explanations

A super structure and good explanations
It is a wonderful experience and a great opportunity to draw White Tara. It a good practice to meet my mind and see where I resist, where I want to push, where I get proud. Superbe.
The only issue was the rhythm of the course which was too quick for me although Carmen was generous and offered twice more time. However some day it took me hours to draw just a little peace of the whole …
Not finished yet …I am really excited to continue as it is for me a real process
Thanks a lot Carmen for the very well done course, the super structure and the good explanations

An in-depth retreat
Hi Carmen, it was so enjoyable ánd valuable for my Buddhist and drawing practice to follow a course with you again after nine years! I have experienced the course as an in-depth retreat. Your carefully designed teaching material, together with your constructive feedback, the mantras and beautiful meditation on White Tara makes this drawing a real Sadhana. Thank you so much that you offer this to the world!

A wonderful experience
Carmen inspired me to believe in myself

Carmen inspired me to believe in myself
This course was a challenge, all about passion, love, doubt, joy, creation, learning, acceptance, meditation and deep immersion into Tara’s philosophy and meaning behind each detail on the Thangka. Carmen inspired me to believe in myself, trust my abilities and led me through the course step-by-step, from the first grid lines to the final shading strokes. I consider the White Tara drawing course as a meditative retreat.
I am very grateful to Carmen for the realization of my dream, to draw the White Tara, the female Buddha. Om Tare 🙏🏻

My Medicine Buddha looks so beautiful and handsome

My Medicine Buddha looks so beautiful and handsome
It has been a beautiful journey with this course. At times, I found it challenging to draw Medicine Buddha’s hands and feet. I am ridiculously happy that my Medicine Buddha looks so beautiful and handsome at the same time. All thanks to Carmen’s guidance and encouragements. This is my fourth online course with Carmen. I highly recommend her courses.
