Drawing Green Tara
The Buddha of active Compassion

During this 4-day thangka course you will learn how to draw Green Tara according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
Green Tara is a fully enlightened female Buddha and a powerful Bodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism. She embodies active compassion, wisdom, and swift, fearless action. Also known as the ‘Mother of all Buddhas‘ and the ‘Saviouress,’ she is revered for her unique vow to always reincarnate in a female form to guide sentient beings toward liberation.
Through a combination of drawing, lectures and meditations this weekend, you will not only make a connection with Green Tara, it also gives you drawing so much more depth. In addition to experiencing the meditational way of thangka drawing, you will learn all about the backgrounds and symbolism of the subject. You will also learn the Mantra of the Green Tara, as well as its meaning and how to work with it.
Drawing an enlightened image like Green Tara is a meditation in itself and creates inner calmness and joy.
If you are a Buddhist practitioner, drawing this Buddha image significantly improves visualization in your meditations.

NOTE: This course is for students on all levels, also those without drawing experience. The prerequisite for this course is the workshop ‘Buddha Face’, see box below
Traditionally one learns to draw the Face of the Buddha (and preferably the Buddha Shakyamuni or Medicine Buddha) before drawing Green Tara. Therefore, the Buddha Face Workshop this is the minimum prerequisite for taking this weekend course. There are two ways of taking this workshop:
IN-PERSON on the afternoon before the lecture starts, at the same location:
12 Nov 2026: Introduction to the Art of Thangka + Drawing Face of the Buddha
ONLINE anytime before this course starts:
Buddha Face Workshop, Online at the School for Tibetan Buddhist Art
There’s also a third option: the Online Buddha Face Workshop can also be started on Sep 4th in combination with either The Buddha or the Medicine Buddha (that both start on Sep 18, so you’ll have both done before the Green Tara Course in Vienna starts).
