NOTE: this retreat in The Netherlands is taught in Dutch, translation is provided on request (in any other language) โ
|
During this four-day course, you will learn to draw this beautiful figure (and perhaps paint it). You will receive grids of two different Guan Yin forms: standing and sitting.

The Rubin Museum of Art is closed
On Oct 6th, the Rubin Museum of Art in NYC closed its physical doors after twenty years. I’m incredibly sad about it.
I’m also incredibly thankful for the many years I was asked to teach there, each year during my classes in the US.
Last July I visited the ‘Rubin’ for the last time and took my time to say goodbye.
Check out the texts and images of its closure that I posted on my social media and learn about what will happen with their amazing collection:
โ
Today is the last day of the Rubin Museum of Art in NYC, the โBest museum on Himalayan art!โ as I always tell my students. Itโs incredibly sad that they are closing.
โ
I was teaching there @rubinmuseumofart each year for 10+ years, offering many different classes: from short thangka workshops to long weekend courses, Tibetan amulet and mask making classes, guided tours, the wonderful teen classes, lectures for the RMAโs guides and docents, and painting demonstrations at the annual block party.
Many of my students that I met there still come to my classes.
โ
Preparation for classes was always a joy, carefully choosing my course subjects to go with the exhibitions that were going on. I truly hope that the RMAโs wonderful collection will still regularly be on view at other places.
โ
Iโm VERY grateful for having been (a very small) part of this special museum, and I want to thank the many fantastic people who Iโve been working with in all those years. A BIG THANK YOU to all of you and all the other staff, and hopefully our paths will cross sometime in the future. Be well ๐๐ป
What happens to the Rubin Museum’s collection?โ
You can still check out the Rubin Museum’s collection online.
โ
There are traveling exhibitions, and pieces that will be on loan to other museums. Read more about this the Rubin Museum’s next chapter.
And I was happy to learn that the beloved shrine room has found a new, permanent home! The Shrine Room will go to the Brooklyn Museum.
