Welcome to the Inspiration Gallery! Here displayed are the artworks that were created during the online Buddha Face Thangka Art course with Carmen Mensink, Editions 2022 + 2023, at the School for Tibetan Buddhist Art.
These traditional Tibetan artworks are made by people from all over the world, and both with and without any drawing experience. Not only express these images the enlightened Buddha mind, they also convey the beauty, love and dedication of the maker. 🙏🏼
Isn’t each and every one of them amazing?
I thought the instructions were clear and loved the pauses for meditation and the mantra sounds. I have been practicing Buddhist dharma for about four or five years and actually drawing the Buddha face with intention was wonderful for my practice. I plan to recommend your course for a few members of my Sangha. All the visuals were easy to follow. I’ve heard about Carmen and her work one day before the end of registration for the course and I’m so happy I decided for it! All steps were super clear – I think I’ve never drawn such good looking face. The geometry behind Thangka makes the whole process very accessible even for less experience artists. I’m already looking forward for the next course. I really appreciate the course, the videos, step by step, all your advices, it was easy to follow alone. I was thinking it will be harder but it was a great experience. And thank you for your feedback and encouragements ! I’m glad to be able to follow the next course soon. I immensely enjoyed doing this course. Because all the video’s are short and sorted by category and step, the instructions are clear and easy to follow. I loved that there was also a lot of information about the meaning and symbolism of the Buddha. This was a great experience! I have wanted to do this for a very long time. I attempted to do it on my own in 2008, but did not have the measurements, and tried and tried with tracing paper. This was so much better. I have made a few mistakes. But I will do another one. It’s a great meditation for me. Especially during the recent eclipse. While the world around me was in crisis, I remained calm, cool, and collected with my buddha. I loved the Tibetan Thangka Art Course Carmen and I will recommend it to my friends and family. I give it a 10 out of 10 and 5 stars. Thank You for making this online course. I really have intrests into Tibet and its culture and i’ve maid some Tibetan friends over the last 2 years. Hi Carmen, I loved doing this course! I appreciated the history and background you offered and found the drawing part meditative and enjoyable. I liked to draw when I was younger, but haven’t done very much art for many years. I found drawing the Buddha face to be a perfect mix of structure with room for artistic expression. I can’t wait to color my Buddha face 🙂 Hello! I love the course!! It met and exceeded my expectations. I added my picture but I have only gotten as far as the grid. It took me a long time to figure that out and then I had to erase. I did listen to the Buddha face part of the course three times, so I will continue on my Buddha face over the next week – I uploaded here just to show progress, but I am only half-way done. Thank you Carmen for this beautiful course offered online for students like me who cannot take part physically. I especially loved the various modalities you used through storytelling, meditation, and explaining the drawing techniques. In the past week, I have drawn several Buddhas, and with each of them, there has been this extreme feeling of learning and transformation within myself. Thank you for being the guru in my journey. And I am looking forward to The Buddha course with much enthusiasm. I absolutely loved this course. I chose to do the course while in solo retreat this week, and it has been a deeply meditative and fulfilling experience. My aspiration is to see the world through the eyes of the Buddha, and learning to paint Thangkas is a lovely way to bring that about. It also has helped me to better understand more of the symbolism in the thangkas. This is a great support to my sadhana practices. Thank you so much!Thorough and easy to follow

I loved the course and felt joyful each time I worked on the Buddha face. It was great engaging in this creative process without self criticism, and very interesting to learn about thangkas and the iconography of the Buddha face.
I enjoyed every aspect of the course, including the information you provided, the mantras and prayers, drawing the grid and the Buddha face, and colouring the face.
Thank you.Janis Cooper
