Healing Plants in Tibetan Medicine
RHINEBECK NY, Omega Institute
Carmen Mensink will be back at the annual Omega Retreat Week to offer a Tibetan Art Painting course
at the renowned Omega Institute, about 2 hrs from NYC.
In this course you will learn how to draw & color or paint the healing herbs and plants in the Tibetan o tradition.
The Buddha once transformed himself into the Buddha of Healing: the Medicine Buddha, who laid the foundation for Tibetan Medicine in the form of the so-called Four Medical Tantras (physiology, diagnosis, pathology and healing).
These texts were later at the basis of The Blue Beryl; the famous medical encyclopedia that became especially famous for a large number of special thangkas (Tibetan scroll paintings) that were added to it in 1687.
These paintings show how the body works, all kinds of illnesses, and the right minerals, herbs and plants that can cure these diseases.
This week we will dive deeper into the different medicinal plants used in Tibetan Medicine, that is commonly known for being effective in treating both mental and physical diseases. Balance in body and mind is the ultimate goal.
You can make it a very personal drawing or painting by creating the plants that help cure diseases that run in your family or that you yourself suffer from.
Thangka drawing & painting is a meditation in itself, and creates inner peace and joy.
OPTIONAL: Instead of Healing Plants you can choose to draw the Buddha’s Face + the complete Buddha after that. >If you prefer this please contact Carmen ahead so she can prepare this.
The retreat is suitable for everyone, including beginners with no drawing experience.
Students with unfinished work from a previous course with Carmen are also very welcome to complete their artwork this week.
All set in the beautiful premises of the Omega Institute, this thangka retreat will absolutely recharge your batteries!
